Meet Your Coach

Joiava Philpott is a corporate executive and legal strategist who has guided public and private companies through complex regulatory environments, enterprise risk, and large-scale transformation. With a JD and MBA from American University, she brings senior legal and corporate leadership experience to her coaching practice. She previously served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Cox Communications, Inc., formerly the largest private broadband company in America, and later at parent company Cox Enterprises, Inc. Earlier, Joiava served as General Counsel of AstroTurf, LLC.

What to know before you book.

Who is this offer for?
This offer is designed for attorneys and legal or business leaders facing a consequential transition, leadership challenge, or advancement decision: law firm associates and partners; in-house counsel at all levels, including general counsel; and vice presidents and senior vice presidents who want to strengthen leadership performance, navigate a transition, or prepare for advancement.
Why is this introductory coaching offer below future standard rates?
This is a one-time introductory rate while I complete ICF practicum hours. Standard executive coaching is typically priced at several hundred dollars per session. You receive the same 60-minute, confidential, goal-focused session structure throughout the introductory period.
Are you qualified to coach if you are still pursuing ICF certification?
Yes. I completed Emory Executive Education’s Executive Coaching Diploma Program. I also bring a J.D., an M.B.A., and years of corporate, legal, and leadership experience. Pursuing my ICF credentials demonstrates my personal commitment to the coaching profession and to continuously developing myself as a coaching professional.
How long is each session?
Sixty minutes, one-to-one. We meet by videoconferencing — Zoom, Teams, or similar — at a mutually agreed time.
How do the packages work?
You may book a single session or a package. Three sessions are $100 instead of $150. Five sessions are $150 instead of $250. Packages offer better value and continuity across the five-month booking window.
Do unused sessions expire?
Sessions in this offer are to be used between October 1, 2026 and February 28, 2027. If a scheduling conflict arises, we will make every reasonable effort to reschedule within that window.
What happens after February 28, 2027?
This introductory rate ends on that date. If we choose to continue, we will discuss next-step pricing and a new engagement term before the window closes. There is no obligation to continue.
Is our work confidential?
Yes. Our coaching conversations are confidential, subject to the specific legal, ethical, safety, and administrative exceptions stated in the engagement agreement. If I log coaching hours for ICF, I do so without identifying you or the substance of our conversations. With separate written consent, I may invite you to participate in an optional recorded session for ICF evaluation; the consent form will explain access, storage, retention, and deletion. I'll provide a separate consent for you to consider at the appropriate time — there is no obligation to provide it as a condition of engaging me, and there is no recording of any session without your express consent.
How is coaching different from consulting, mentoring, or therapy?
Coaching is a collaborative, client-centered partnership. I do not give legal, financial, or clinical advice, and I do not take over your decisions. You remain responsible for your choices and outcomes. I help you see more clearly, decide more deliberately, and act more effectively.
Can I end the engagement?
Yes. You may end at any time by sending written electronic notice before the next scheduled session. I will extend you the same courtesy if I ever need to step back.
What if I need to cancel a session?
Please give at least 24 hours' notice. We will reschedule within the offer window whenever possible.
How do I prepare?
Come willing to be candid. Before our first session, I'll send a Client Intake Survey so we can begin with your real priorities, not a generic agenda.
How do I get started?
